The planet needs healers, peacemakers and more: Dalai Lama

Dalai Lama need healers

This quote by the Dalai Lama really hit home for me. When I think of the state of the world, our humanity, and what is required to become an enlightened civilization, I see the need for all of us, especially leaders, to be peacemakers, healers, storytellers and builders.

In the USA there is such a cultural bias towards success and it’s measured in dollars and materialism.  Our society demands proof of our value in the form of credentialing and status to be seen as worthy of a job, career or relationship.  That may be fine and useful but woefully incomplete.  We need artists and healers in organizations too.  Coming into a balance of the creative and the intellectual, the heart and the mind, the sacred and secular is of utmost importance if we are going to move to a higher level of consciousness and create new systems in line with that evolutionary imperative.

How many times do we stop ourselves from taking on a challenge or transitioning to a life or work that is more in alignment with our essence because the little voice inside says that we are not qualified to do or be XYZ.  What are the credentials for healers, peacemakers, storytellers, lovers and restorers?  We are all credentialed and qualified, we all have the capacity to act in in these ways and indeed we must.  Embrace these qualities, add them to your personal resume.  I agree with the Dalai Lama.  We need you and we need you now.

  1. Thanks for this post, Alicia. It is so very important to name the gifts and blessings healers, artists, gardeners and teachers bring forth, to guide all beings on the planet. Gentleness is under-valued and much needed. May all who offer their creativity through hearts and hands be recognized, honored and rewarded. Servant Leadership is essential.

  2. Very true and wise words- thank you. Many people are very afraid to move to a more loving place in their careers, habits and lives even though they really want to. The irony of course is that love is the antidote to the fear of moving towards love. We all know that on a soul level, it just takes bravery to remember it. xx

  3. I also agree with the Dalai Lama……I am reading Margaret Whestley’s “So far from home” and her call to become warriors for the human spirit………I feel it is much in the same line……

  4. I love this, Alicia. Your line, “We are all credentialed and qualified, we all have the capacity to act in in these ways and indeed we must. Embrace these qualities, add them to your personal resume” empowered me. Thank you. I agree that we are all healers and peacemakers; we just need to connect with what we have forgotten. Thank you for this wonderful post for peace.

  5. This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this inspirational post that indeed we all make a difference, and we all need to shine our light. As the Dalai Lama himself said, the world needs healers and peacemakers. Thanks for helping spread the word! Namaste. ~Gina
